Joe also inadvertently summons Chinese gods Nüwa and Fuxi, disguised as his editor and a chameleon-like calligrapher, and archangels Gabriel, Raphael and Auriel, disguised as a Chinese scholar and two Chinese Jewish Rabbis.

While Nüwa and Fuxi meet with an Israeli agent in Shanghai to coordinate their plan, Joe, Gabriel and Auriel go to Kaifeng, a 900 year-old Jewish settlement and meet Raphael who reveals Kabbalah codebooks. When Joe returns to Shanghai, he and his three Chinese cohorts perform obscure ceremonies that give Joe more clues to Chinese/Israeli plan. The book ends with the god’s watching the humans’ problems come to an unexpected conclusion while Joe and Nüwa deal with their own unexpected involvement.
